Sesame Street and My Childhood Escape

To wrap up Frank Oz’s filmography, what better way than with the ultra-casual, heartwarming documentary Muppet Guys Talking? Now, I’ve mentioned before that I was never a hardcore Muppets fan, but Sesame Street? That was a different story. See, I didn’t have the happiest childhood—my father scared me until I was about 10, and my mother wasn’t exactly warm and affectionate. She never hugged me or said sweet things, and most of the time, it felt like my very existence annoyed her. So, some of my happiest memories involve curling up in a big armchair and watching Sesame Street and Inspector Gadget. Those shows stuck with me, and honestly, I think Sesame Street made me a little sharper as a kid and probably helped instill some of the kindness and compassion that my parents didn’t. And for that, I’ll always be grateful to Jim Henson for creating something so genuinely good for kids.

Muppet Guys Remembering Jim

And that’s exactly what this documentary feels like—more than just Muppet Guys Talking, it’s Muppet Guys Remembering Jim Henson. The love and admiration these performers have for him are undeniable. But beyond the nostalgia and heartfelt moments, the documentary also gives a fascinating look at the sheer amount of effort, precision, and absurd endurance it takes to be a puppeteer. Ever tried holding your arm up for 30 minutes straight? Now imagine doing that for hours, all while acting, voicing a character, and hitting perfect comedic timing. It’s insane. The behind-the-scenes stories are great, and seeing the camaraderie between these legends makes it all the more special.

A Casual but Insightful Watch

Now, if I had one complaint, it’s that I wish the doc ran a little longer and dug deeper into the craft. It feels more like a relaxed conversation than a polished, structured documentary, which was clearly Frank Oz’s vision for it—so fair enough. But hey, if you’re even remotely interested in the Muppets or just want to hear some incredible creatives reminisce about one of the greatest minds in entertainment, this is worth a watch. Check out the clips I here for some of the best moments. And with that, my Frank Oz journey is complete! Next up: my ranking of his films, from best to worst. Stay tuned!

Final Score: 58/100
