Week 12 Wrap-up

John Leguizamo Week Wrap-up

Hi everyone!
Here's this week's wrap up here at Freddy's Cine It.

It wasn't a particularly impressive week, but it wasn't one of the worst either.

Starting with my favorite, almost a mind-blowing movie, we have Critical Thinking (2020). A biopic film directed by Leguizamo and where he plays the role of the amazing Cuban-American teacher Mario Martinez. A film based on real events that managed to get me and Krasnaya excited to play a little game of chess. We haven't done it yet btw. ♞

Next, let's get it done with the worst movie of the week! Please don't watch, oh God please don't watch this - The Pest (1997).

Curiously, some of the scenes are kind of funny on their own and you can give it a try by watching the clips I've uploaded to YouTube. Just click the link for the review and scroll down.

Spun (2002) was a lot of fun. If you like drug-themed movies and are a fan of Guy Ritchie or Tarantino, you might enjoy this one. Every critic seems to compare this movie, and even say that it's a rip off of Requiem for a Dream. I've never seen that one, because Jared Leto sucks, so I can't tell you.

Latin History for Morons (2018), not a movie. A stand-up/theater history lesson that I really enjoyed. John does an outstanding job in this one-man show and it's really worth a watch for spicing up one's interest in history.

I just have to say that after a little research, some of the stuff he says ended up not being true. Still, there were a lot of new facts and great reading recommendations!

Summer of Sam (1999) by Spike Lee! Meh... this movie mixed many different ingredients that I love, like punk rock and the mafia, but the cocktail came out without a punch. A messy movie with a great premise and an outstanding performance by John Leguizamo. I didn't enjoy it very much, but Krasnaya sure did. You might give it a try. There's an orgy somewhere in there. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you are a parent, I will leave you with a great quote from John:

“With kids, the days are long, but the years are short."

I really feel like this when I look at pictures of my daughter from about 1 or 2 years ago.

All done, got to go!
Have a great week!

Frank Oz: From Worst to Best

I've finished my Frank Oz filmography a while back and hadn't had the time to post here the rank and some thoughts about his work. Let's try to refresh my memory and give you some of my opinions... man. Frank Oz is a true legend. At 81, he's not just a brilliant filmmaker but also a puppeteer and writer whose characters, from the Muppets to Sesame Street, have touched countless lives. His directing career is full of outstanding, entertaining movies; out of 14 films, there's really only one rotten apple in the bunch. I'm not sure if he's planning to make any more movies, but I'd love to see him try his hand at a serious drama, just to see him flex a different creative muscle. I wouldn't like to be that famous, I value my privacy. Mind you, Miss Piggy enjoys every moment of it. If it were not for me, she would spend all her time in the limelight. Frank OZ This is his entire fi...
