Big Bug (2022)

Bigbug is a French science fiction black comedy film, written and directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, that was released on 11 February 2022 by Netflix. It stars Elsa Zylberstein, Isabelle Nanty, Youssef Hajdi, Alban Lenoir and François Levantal.

A group of bickering suburbanites find themselves stuck together when an android uprising causes their well intentioned household robots to lock them in for their own safety.

Freddy's Movie Review
***SPOILER ALERT***

F: Fourth movie of the week: "Bigbug" is a unique take on the science fiction genre, blending black comedy and a satirical look at a future where AI technology is ubiquitous in everyday life. Jean-Pierre Jeunet's direction and the impressive special effects and production design certainly make for an entertaining watch. However, the film's pacing feels uneven, and the climax and resolution are underwhelming.

F: The film's strength lies in its inventive and well-designed robots and gadgets. I particularly enjoyed the domestic robot Duster, being one of my favorite moments the one when it flirts with FranΓ§oise. The Yonyx robots, led by FranΓ§ois Levantal, are also wonderfully terrifying with their perfect white teeth. However, I felt the background story and world-building could have been fleshed out more, and the ending left me feeling unsatisfied. The movie is like a very long and goofy episode of the TV show "Black Mirror", but fails to pack the same emotional punch.

That AI smile...
F: This movie is also worth a watch from every guy just for Elsa Zylberstein's character, Alice, she's soooo hot! Especially in her black lingerie getting spanked. Oh, mama!

In general, I found the film to be a parody and a very cartoonish version of the future where we live side-by-side with AI. It was interesting and fun to watch, but towards the end it started to become a little boring and uninteresting. Despite these shortcomings, I still found it to be an enjoyable experience with some clever and original dystopian ideas, (That ad drone coming by your window is very scary!).  If you're looking for a more realistic and serious portrayal of AI, I suggest checking out  "I'm Your Man" instead.
