The Jerk (1979)

The Jerk (1979) movie poster
The Jerk is a 1979 American comedy film directed by Carl Reiner and written by Steve Martin, Carl Gottlieb, and Michael Elias. This was Martin's first starring role in a feature film. The Jerk has been praised as not only one of Martin's best comedic efforts, but also one of the funniest films ever made. In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted The Jerk the 48th greatest comedy film of all time. This film is #20 on Bravo's 100 Funniest Movies and #89 on AFI's 100 Years... 100 Laughs. Premiere magazine voted Steve Martin's performance of Navin Johnson #99 on their list, "The 100 Greatest Performances of All Time".

Navin is an idiot. He grew up in Mississippi as adopted son of a black family but on his 18th birthday he feels he wants to discover the rest of the world and sets out to St. Louis. There everyone exploits his naivety, but then a simple invention brings him a fortune.
freddy's score os 60-80 i got the feelz
F: Dudes, there's a dog with sunglasses, a hat and a pipe. People must have gone hysterical back then, there was no internet to show you these things! This made me wonder how many dressed dogs there have been in the history of cinema.

dog with glasses, hat and a pipe

F: Down here goes a picture of the best romantic scene I've ever seen on film. That violin cracked me up. Steve Martin was great in the 70's. I love his stand up, he was completely mad on stage. (watch clip down there).

so romatinc

F: This has to be my favorite moment in the film: "If I had yelled cut on time, those actors would be alive today.". The whole absurdity taking place here is just BRILLIANT.
