Suspending Disbelief and Atmospheric Silence

My suspended disbelief is not working today and this "review" is going to be me complaining about how dumb this movie is. So, let me see If I can get this. Primitive super sensitive hearing monsters have destroyed civilization and taken over the earth and no one was able to figure out how to stop them? When their obvious weakness is SOUND? Who da f**k said this movie was smart!? Dude, just fill a mine with C4 or Dynamite, put an annoying toy space rocket in there and wait for the perfect time. It's so easy... You had to wait for a little girl to discover high pitched noises and sound feedback? This movie is sooooo dumb, Dang! π€¦♂️

Here comes a horror movie! It was Freddy's choice, by the way. π I am not a big fan of suspense and horror, actually. It turned out that I only had to close my eyes once and it wasn't because of a monster, it was because of an object! I liked the idea of a movie with a lot of silence and I liked the picture. I think the movie is really atmospheric. The interior of the house is full of cute handmade things. I really like the mobile for the baby. And it's full of sunlight most of the time, you even forget that dangerous creatures are around. The acting is quite decent (there are lots of emotional moments), and the casting of a real deaf-mute girl (Millicent Simmonds) deserves a lot of respect.

Parental Choices and Flawed Logic

So, these monsters come running to crush you from miles away if you make a sound, but somehow when you're 5 meters apart they can't hear shit and become ultra slow π€·♂️. How many days did that monster take to reach the silo where the kids were making all that noise? Dumb. Now, about good parental choices. So you and your wife, who are trying to survive the aliens, know of a place where there is a beautiful waterfall and where you can scream all you want because of the loud sound of water, yet you decide that the best place to raise your baby to be, is in a little coffin with an oxygen mask?? That scene where they put the baby in the box was disturbing, by the way. Who's baby was that in real life? I felt uncomfortable watching that. Also, did they consider the waterfall location for the birth of the child? What was their plan before it all went to shit with that NAIL?

The events passing on the screen not only contradict common sense, they contradict themselves, which makes this film bad, not mediocre. The characters of this movie are incredibly dumb! Why, in a situation when you can only survive by being completely silent, decide to make a baby? You know that they cry a lot, right? Why did they leave their 4-year-old child behind when going through the forest...? Such kids do make a lot of noise and get distracted easily! How can a totally deaf girl know if she is making noise or not? The point is, that while watching this movie you will have a lot of WHY's and receive no explanations for them. It's just a dumb movie!

Jump Scares and Predictable Fun

Before we get jumped by a deaf community, I think the girl might perceive sound vibrations and be aware of the noise that she could possibly make. I'm not sure. Anyway, I have many more facepalm moments from this movie to mention, but let's focus on the positive now. This movie is FUN! Yes, it's stupid as hell, but the atmosphere and the jump scares were fun. I don't even like jump scares, I like my horror more classy, but this time I was in the mood for them. The acting was pretty good also, especially by Emily Blunt. Even though I predicted every single scene of this movie, I was still able to enjoy it. Probably because I was not watching it alone and that way I could sound stupid smart π€ͺ with my constant criticism throughout its runtime.
