Weekly Theme Announcement

Welcome to Our 7th Week: SABU Week

Wattup everybody? Today, for my great pleasure, we got SABU for our themed week (14 - 18 June). We recently watched a movie made by him—Postman Blues—in our "90's Japanese Crime Movies" week. I immediately had to put his name on our raffle after finishing it.
SABU (born November 18, 1964) is the pseudonym of Japanese actor and director Hiroyuki Tanaka.

SABU DIRECTOR MOVIE WEEK
Sabu studied at an Osaka fashion school before deciding to go to Tokyo to become a professional musician. It was suggested he try acting and in 1986 he made his film debut in Sorobanzuku. He earned his first starring role in 1991's World Apartment Horror, a live-action film directed by Katsuhiro Ōtomo of Akira fame. Working from a script he wrote himself, he made his directorial debut with the 1996 Dangan Runner.

There isn't much information about SABU online and his movies were really hard to find. This sounds just like the right kind of cult director to follow. Let's see what we have got in store this week. I'm excited!
"Of course, there were a lot of masterpieces in the world, and I'm sure a lot of people have these preconceived notions about what a film is supposed to be, but I've been making my films by breaking down those preconceived notions, to try to create something that was newer and freer. I would advise the same for your readers; forgo preconceived notions and try to be more free and try to create something that's new."
